Currently, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) oversees mandatory product certification, which can be mainly divided into two categories: ISI certification and the CRS mandatory registration scheme. The range of products covered by the two is different. ISI mainly includes electrical accessories, household appliances, petrochemical products, medical devices, food, etc., while CRS mainly includes AV/IT products, LED lighting, photovoltaic products, etc. ISI stands for Indian Standards Institution. Before India's independence, there was no national standard and certification body, and British and American standards were mostly used domestically in India. After India's independence in 1947, the government established the Indian Standards Institution (ISI) in New Delhi and began implementing the ISI mark certification system. Later, India established the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) to replace the Indian Standards Institution (ISI), but retained the ISI certification and mark. The ISI certification authority is the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). In 2012, India released the National Electronics Policy, aiming to create an institutional mechanism to formulate and enforce standards and certification for electronic products. On September 7, 2012, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of India issued the "Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order," which stipulates that the products involved must be tested and registered according to the relevant standards in laboratories recognized by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in India, and must bear the relevant mark. The CRS certification authority is the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). According to the BIS certification regulations of India, no one shall manufacture, sell, or import related products that do not comply with Indian standards. Both ISI and CRS are mandatory safety certifications under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and are generally referred to as BIS certification.
