What is California Proposition 65 certification?

Last Updated on2024-12-10 07:50:43
California Proposition 65, also known as the California Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, is an environmental safety legislation in the state of California, commonly referred to as "Proposition 65" or the "California 65 Act." The purpose of this law is to protect California residents from potential harm caused by chemicals that are known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. Under Proposition 65, businesses are required to provide clear warnings when their products contain these chemicals. The California 65 Act mandates the government to maintain and update a list of chemicals known to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity. If a product contains chemicals from this list and their concentration exceeds the safe exposure level, the product must carry a clear warning label to inform consumers of the potential risks. Common chemicals tested in electronics for CA65 include lead, cadmium, phthalates, bisphenol A, and others.
